The focus of this field of study is space, space formation and spatial notation. The elements of designing a space are presented; the procedures involved are systematised, the methods of conditioning, of conformity and of setting are explained in an atmospheric and semiotic context. The main focus here is the development of theoretical design concepts for spaces/rooms and spatial ensembles. The central aspect is the discovery of new solutions through the teaching of “function” and “meaning” linked to cultural and cultural-historical reconstruction work. The concept is consistently “space”, its various historical and symbolic connotations and their structural dependence on culture, environment and society. The decisive factor is the development of methods and to make these tenable and architecturally functional for new spatial constructs.
