Study Objectives and Content

The students are taught basic knowledge of and skills in spatial/room design – from the design of individual objects (furniture, fixtures and fittings, etc.) via artistic involvement up to complex spatial concepts (space-utility concepts, scene setting, virtual spatial systems, etc). The central idea is to support the students, via project-oriented learning, in developing an individual definition of art and design in relation to the use of space.

In addition to the ability to create different spatial concepts, a further objective is teaching skills in the fields of manufacturing, joining and material technologies. Design-specific approaches, the competent use of materials and products, design methodology, implementation and presentation techniques are all part of the project-oriented study modules.

Concept development and realisation in contemporary digital media related to project work are also integral parts of the study course.

Furthermore, general teaching and learning objectives are also the ability to express oneself in written form, acquiring skills in communication and presentation, as well as implementation strategies and realisation management.

The study of Interior Design in the field of Spatial Design gives graduates the opportunity to participate in many different professional fields. In response to constantly changing demands, the objective is to train professional skills in order to be able to deal with and work within developing and open professional fields in a reflective and individual manner as well as in a team.

The professional fields and areas of specialisation for graduates illustrate the wide spectrum of possible applications whereby the conceptual as well as productive, project management and/or practical level can be experimented on and investigated as a professional activity.

- stage set design/scene setting/film set architecture
- trade fair design/shopping environments
- event design (cultural events etc.)
- conception of multimedia spaces/interactive spatial concepts
- development and implementation of  virtual spatial systems

- concepts for corporate identity design of physical spaces
- spatial concepts for particular social groups
