International Students

Studying at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts.

International students are always welcome. If you are interested in spending a semester at our academy, we need an application from you including a portfolio, CV, language certificate (German/English) and a letter of motivation.

Please apply for winter semester from 1st to 15th May
and for the summer semester from 1st to 15th November.

If you are a student at one of our partner schools, you can apply via your international office. If you come from a non-partner institution, please get in touch with us directly.

Semester periods
Winter:  01.10.-31.03.
Summer: 01.04.-30.09.

A course catalogue can be bought in the library from the beginning of each semester. During the annual exhibition Einblick/Ausblick, the academy is open for public viewing of student projects of the preceding year.

Tuition Fee

All courses are free of charge. Materials have to be paid for by the student.

For each semester there is an amount of 100EURo to be paid for student services and public transport (KVG). A ticket for the whole semester is issued together with a student ID after registration and payment.

Language

The common instruction language is German. However, most lecturers and students speak English as well. Classes take place in German. 
Language courses are offered at the University of Kiel (CAU) for free and at the Adult Education Center.

Cost of Living and Housing

Costs of living
The average costs of living can run up to 600 EUR per month plus the cost of materials for the respective courses. The rent for a room can be calculated at between 150 – 400 EUR. 

Student Halls
Looking for a place to stay in a foreign country is not always easy, The Housing Department offers advice and support. One of their services is to provide accomodation for students at a reasonable price.

Insurance

Students will need insurance during their stay in Germany. You should check with your insurance company to see whether they provide services for a stay abroad, or you will have to purchase insurance at the one of the health insurance companies (e.g. AOK) or obtain complete travel coverage at SITE (Services for International Travel and Education).

How to get to the Academy

The Academy is located at the Lorentzendamm, close to the Kleinen Kiel. You can get there using the bus, nos. 11, 91, 82, 501, 502, 900 to the Lorentzendamm stop or 22, 32, 33, 61, 62 to the Hospitalstraße.

All buses leave from Kiel main station.
