The objective of higher education in the field
of media studies is less the specialist training of technical skills and more
the communication and advancement of interdisciplinary artistic competence of
independent artists and designers. The pre-requisite for this is the
acquisition of wide-ranging media skills.
This ranges from conscious work with original forms of moving images, e.g. from
film, digital picture and sound generation up to an overall understanding of
the aesthetic and technical potential of digital media and their principles of
interaction.
The Centre for Media thus covers the fields of study of digital and interactive
media as well as film /time-based media. It is not specifically allocated to a
particular subject field and is at the disposal of all students in all degree
courses.
There is close cooperation between the associated fields of study of media art,
communication design, interface design and the Centre for Theory.
