The history of art in the 20th century changed from an objective history of style and era to one of artistic subjectivity, which also changed the relationship to the recipient and between art and society. This has particular consequences for the teaching of art history at academies of art and design, which is different than at university. This is because it can only then be integrated in the self-manifesting concept of art and design when it makes artistic processes culturally-historically obvious and comprehensible.
